Like the line in the movie Jerry Maguire, this city “had me at hello” when I first drove over the Morrison Bridge in 1989. What was supposed to be a temporary stay of two years has turned into 27 years and my children are now native Oregonians.
Ahead of that pivotal move to Portland, I had lived on various Army bases as a kid, sometimes moving as often as every year and by the time I moved to Portland, I had lived over a third of my life outside of the U.S. I definitely understand the value of finding one’s place. And with that understanding also comes a lifetime accumulation of negotiating difficult situations; it takes a lot to throw me.
As the daughter of an Army officer, I learned the pride of a job well done, even if it was spit-polishing Dad’s dress shoes. As a parent of a son in the autistic spectrum, I have a well of patience and faith that I draw from when a client’s sale is looking precarious, that more times than not gets us through to the other side. And I’ve discovered and developed an eye for design that gives my selling clients a keen edge in their marketing. For my purchasing clients this translates into the ability to see good bones; no matter how many layers of wallpaper and shag carpeting are thrown at me.
